A little bit about our couple, Angelica & Chase.
We’ve been dating since August 19, 2011, but Chase says that date doesn’t matter anymore.
Angelica’s favorite new piece to our story is the incredible way that Chase proposed. Here’s the proposal story, as told by Angelica: A month or so prior to the proposal, Chase was acting sort of funny and suggested that we go to the Keys for a few days after finishing rotations in December. He refused to answer my annoying questions as to why, and I immediately got anxious. Was this going to be it?! (Ahhhh!!! I was so excited!) I’ll never forget Maddie suggesting that we get manicures before hand (everyone knows Gel loves her gel), and I was more than fine with this. I tried not to think anything of it. When I was freaking out about what to pack, Gianna told me on numerous occasions “shut up, he doesn’t even like you.” Anyway, we got down to the Keys and just chilled. As soon as we hit US1, I stopped thinking that anything could be happening, and I just took it all in, like any other vacation.
Our first stop was our favorite Islamorada spot, Lorelei’s. We arrived minutes before the most gorgeous sunset (this was gorgeous sunset #1 out of 3). We had dinner at Sara Beth’s (we didn’t even know they served dinner! SCORE!) and took it easy. We had big plans for the next day, and opted to relax again instead, sightseeing (Butterfly Garden, Hemingway House, etc) and eating fish dip…twice…and dining at the intimate “Off the Hook,” an instant, new KW favorite.
Monday, 12/22/14 was the BIG DAY. By this point, I was so damn relaxed I didn’t even need a massage, but Chase took me to the cutest spa for couples massages (this was huge, bc the last time I suggested that Chase get his first-ever massage, he wasn’t a big fan). Eventually, we got ready and went on what I thought was a GROUP sunset cruise. I got dressed up for the “group.” Well, upon arriving to the dock and seeing an adorably decorated boat, set with one captain and one hostess, my heart started to pound. Thank goodness they started wining and dining us with a five course meal because again, I relaxed (yay for booze). Chase let it be MY idea to take photos, but he ensured that we took them at sunset with a little nudge of: “ah, look at the sun, let’s take photos now! Hey, Captain Alex, will you take our photo?” As we’re snapping away, I blacked out for a second; he was suddenly on his knee with the most stunningly perfect ring at the most perfect moment. It was absolutely incredible. I didn’t think the night could get better, but we ended it with a bar crawl…just the two of us checking out a new side of Duval Street….the next day, we HYDRATED*, headed back to Stuart, and I was surprised by our family and friends at the Blue Door. Perfect.
*I thought Chase’s persistence on the hydration was a bit much because I was under the impression was that our big plans for the evening would be to make gingerbread men.
….Chase’s version of our proposal story involves a lot more work and planning with a side of panic (as the ring shipped across the country from Los Angeles).
Simply stated, the Florida Keys are our happy place. Angelica fell in love with the Keys before she fell in love with Chase (just ask Maddie…they went monthly for a while). But now, her love for the Keys has evolved to be much more than a place to relax or a place to party. It is an oasis that has truly become our home away from home. Upon hitting Key Largo (the first Key), the stressors of daily life dissipate. We explore. We watch sunsets. We drink Key Lime cocktails. We listen to music. We people watch, oh do we people watch. We dance. We eat insanely fresh seafood. We continue to explore – new bars, new coves, new hobbies.
We cannot wait to share our happy place with the most important people in our lives. To those of you who have never been, we promise to show you an incredible time. (And we will update the site soon with places to go and see as you’re planning your trips!)
A gorgeous beach wedding in #KeyWest for Angelica and Chase on January 16, 2016. Beach and a sunset were just two important key factors for this couple’s #destination wedding. Visiting several venues and finally choosing the #Westin Resort with #Sunset Key as the backdrop for an unforgettable beach ceremony. One of the best part of this event was the ride on the #Fury catamaran that would transport everyone to that tiny, private island that is situated on the other side of the harbor from the Westin Resort. And, where would a fun and unique cocktail hour be but again on board the Fury catamaran. To top the night off, Angelica and Chase along with their families and guests continued the festivities on the Westin pier with an array of delicious food, dancing and desserts galore.
